In most cases, warm, humid air is getting into a space that should stay cold and dry. The exact location of the moisture matters, though, because it helps point to whether you have a simple airflow issue, a worn door seal, or a refrigerator part that needs professional attention.

A warm setting is not always intentional. A child may have bumped the control, a digital panel may have been changed during cleaning, or the temperature sensor may no longer be reading accurately. Moisture on the exterior cabinet, door, or center divider between the refrigerator and freezer doors is often related to room humidity. On a hot, humid day, the metal surface can become cool enough for water vapor in the kitchen air to condense on it.
Many refrigerators use a heater or warm air system around the door frame to prevent exterior sweating. Depending on the model, that feature may be automatic, controlled by a setting, or tied to an energy-saving mode. If the cabinet is sweating heavily in normal indoor conditions, that system may not be operating correctly.

Then close the door on a dollar bill or a strip of paper. You should feel resistance when pulling it out. Test several spots around the gasket. A loose area does not always confirm a failed gasket, but it is useful information when diagnosing the problem.
Make sure containers and drawers are fully seated and not preventing the door from closing. Rearrange food so interior vents are not covered. Verify the temperature setting, and use a refrigerator thermometer if you have one. The display setting is helpful, but the actual cabinet temperature tells the more complete story.
Also inspect the floor around the refrigerator and the area beneath the unit with a flashlight. If the water is coming from the bottom rather than forming as droplets inside the cabinet, a drain, water line, or defrost issue becomes more likely.
